STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team (7-9) dropped their regular season finale to a tough Tarleton State (13-6) team 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Tarleton Tennis Facility.
 
The Mavericks dropped the doubles point despite a 6-3 win on Court 2 from the tandem of Ana Paula Jimenez and Ioana Dumitrescu. The Texans snagged the early 1-0 thanks to doubles victories on Courts 1 and 3.
 
In Singles action, Ana Paula Jimenez took down Duru Kuscu 6-1, 6-4 on Court 1 to knot the score up at one apiece.
 
The Texans regained the lead after Ximena Morales defeated Mialy Ranaivo 6-3, 6-2 on Court 3.
 
Maria Lucia Araoz-Gosn took down Clara Sobius on Court 6 to knot the score up at two apiece. The two battled in an exciting game one that saw Araoz-Gosn take the tiebreaker 7-5 to claim set two and the match.
 
The Texans would rally for the next two points to earn the 4-2 victory over the Mavs. Adeliya Mukhutdinova defeated Nika Novikova 6-3, 6-3 on Court 5 to put Tarleton up 3-2.
 
On Court 4, Ioana Dumitrescu took the first game 6-4 over Maria Castano. Castano took game two 6-1 over Dumitrescu to send it to the decisive game three. Castano went up 4-1 before Dumitrescu had to retire from the match, giving Castano the win by opponent retirement and the Texans the 4-2 victory over the Mavs.
 
The Western Athletic Conference Tournament is on the horizon for the Mavs, beginning next Thursday, April 17, and continues through to Saturday, April 19. UTA will be hosting this year's tournament, which will be taking place at the Arlington Tennis Center.
