GAME 1 | Lamar 6, UT Arlington 5
BEAUMONT, Texas --The UT Arlington Mavericks took a 5-4 lead into the eighth inning, but could not hang on and fell 6-5 to the Lamar Cardinals Sunday.
Senior Rhys Stevens (1-4) took the loss on the mound for UT Arlington (8-19). Sophomore Nicholas Robb started the ballgame and went six innings, surrendering two runs, both earned, on seven hits, walking three and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Freshman Cade Dodson came across to score the lone run of the inning for UT Arlington and get them on the board.
The Mavericks then held the Cardinals scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. UT Arlington scored once on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Austin Phillips, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Mavericks.
Lamar came back to even the ballgame at two before UT Arlington reclaimed a 4-2 advantage in the third inning. The Mavericks notched two runs in the frame, the vital hit being an RBI double from Phillips.
UT Arlington held the Cardinals without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Mavericks recorded a run on sophomore Xander McAfee's two-out solo homer off freshman Hayden Stallings, bringing the score to 5-2 in favor of UT Arlington. The Mavericks were unable to hold the lead, as Lamar scored four times over the remaining five innings to grab the 6-5 win.

BEAUMONT, Texas --The UT Arlington Mavericks fought back from down 2-1 in the seventh inning to beat the Lamar Cardinals 4-2 Sunday.
Senior Joe Steeber (3-2) got the win for UT Arlington (9-19). The right-hander went eight innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out seven. Senior Caden Noah also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. UT Arlington got an RBI single from junior Xavier Melendez, scoring junior Jacob Lang from third base.
The Mavericks kept the Cardinals off the board before taking the lead in the eighth. which brought the Mavericks lead to 4-2. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as UT Arlington held on for the win. 74 95 38 8 4
