MESA, Ariz. --A solid offensive output was not enough for UT Arlington on Wednesday as the Mavericks put up seven runs, but could not hold the Utah Valley Wolverines at bay, and were defeated 17-7.
Senior Joe Steeber (4-5) got the ball to start for UT Arlington (20-32) and took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0, the Mavericks first put runs on the board in the second inning. UT Arlington's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of junior Xavier Melendez and a two-run single from senior Parker Airhart.
The Mavericks then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fifth inning after the Wolverines cut it to 6-5. UT Arlington scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Tyce Armstrong, which brought the score to 7-5 in favor of the Mavericks. The Mavericks were unable to hold the lead, as Utah Valley scored 12 times over the remaining three innings to grab the 17-7 win.

With a loss, the Mavs fall to the losers bracket and will face the loser of game six (Sacramento State, Utah Tech or Grand Canyon) on May 22 at 9 p.m. CT.
