GAME 1 | UT Arlington 16, Utah Valley 6
ARLINGTON, Texas --UT Arlington got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Mavericks put 16 runs on the board and defeat the Utah Valley Wolverines 16-6 Saturday.
Sophomore Caylon Dygert (5-3) got the win for UT Arlington (15-27, ). The right-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on 10 hits, allowing one walk and striking out six.
At the plate, the Mavericks were paced by freshman Cade Dodson, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Senior Parker Airhart furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Junior Xavier Melendez also helped out for UT Arlington, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 4-0, the Mavericks first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. UT Arlington's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Melendez.
The game remained tied until the very next inning, when the Mavericks got going again on offense. The UT Arlington offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of sophomore Xander McAfee, which brought the Mavericks lead to 8-4.
UT Arlington kept Utah Valley without a run before building their lead to 13-4 the following inning. The Mavericks hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring five runs.
The Wolverines fought back, closing the gap to 13-6 until UT Arlington added some insurance in the eighth. The inning resulted in three runs for the Mavericks, all of them scoring on a three-run homer off the bat of Airhart to left, bringing the score to 16-6 in favor of UT Arlington. The score remained 16-6 for the rest of the game, as the Mavericks coasted to the win.

Sophomore Nicholas Robb (3-5) started on the mound and picked up the win for UT Arlington (16-27, ). The right-hander went six innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on 10 hits, allowing one walk and striking out four. Senior Rhys Stevens also made an impact on the mound for the Mavericks, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings while allowing no hits.
In the batter's box, the Mavericks were paced by freshman Austin Phillips, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, two walks and three RBI. Sophomore Caylon Dygertcompiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Senior Tyce Armstrong also contributed for UT Arlington, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. UT Arlington scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Dygert.
The Mavericks lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the second trailing 4-3. Freshman Cade Dodson's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where UT Arlington scored twice, which brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Mavericks.
UT Arlington kept Utah Valley without a run before building their lead to 11-4 the following inning. The Mavericks bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Phillips.
The Wolverines gained ground, closing the gap to 11-6 until UT Arlington added some insurance in the seventh. bringing the UT Arlington advantage to 14-6. Utah Valley put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Mavericks still coasted to the 14-8 win.
