ARLINGTON, TEXAS – A duo of Mavericks earned conference preseason recognition this Friday as the Western Athletic Conference league officials announced. Junior
Samantha Glenn was named the WAC Preseason Libero of the Year for the first time in her career, while both her and
Sophie Ocampo were selected to the All-WAC Team.
Glenn, a native of Grapevine, Texas totaled 438 digs (3.84 per set), 105 assists and 17 aces over 32 matches, or 114 sets last season. The junior produced double-digit digs in 28 matches and had a career high 24 against California Baptist (9/28). Glenn also claimed a WAC Libero of the Week award during the 2024 championship season (10/02).
"Well deserved honor for Sam," head coach Tania Schatow said. "She has been working hard and has only gotten better. Her ability to read attackers and fight to keep the ball off the floor is phenomenal. I am very happy for her."
Ocampo, who has been tabbed as a Preseason All-WAC recipient for the first time in her career, concluded last season with 82 kills behind a .300 hitting percentage and 53 total blocks over 24 matches.
In addition to the preseason all-conference team, the WAC announced its preseason coaches' poll. After winning the regular season and conference championship last year (29-3, 16-0 WAC), the Mavs were tabbed to finish second this season, receiving one first-place vote.
The Mavs will head to Nacogdoches on Saturday to face the Lumberjacks of SFA inside the Sheldon Gym at 2 p.m. in an exhibition match.
