Mavericks Wrap Up Season Opener at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UT Arlington track and field team started the indoor season on a high with three first place and two third place finishes.

Emilia Mandl won the women's 800m race with a time of 2:09.23, while Daniel Armstrong won the men's 800, clocking a time of 1:49.72. Ethan Saenz also brought in a first-place finish in the men's pole vault, with a mark of 4.85m.

Leo LeGrand and Ardo Cserni earned third-place medals in 800m (1:51.39) and the pole vault (4.60m), respectively. Lucas Cano, earned fifth place (first place out of 17 freshmen), in men's shot put with a mark of 16.39m.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH
"We had a solid opening meet on both sides. Emilia Mandal highlighted the women's performances with a big PR and win in the 800, while others gained valuable early-season experience," said Coach Sauerhauge, "On the men's side, Daniel Armstrong posted a massive PR to win the 800, and Eli England was a true workhorse across multiple events. Our throwers showed real promise, led by Logan Villalva's outstanding season opener and a strong group performance. Depsite a few injuries, this meet showed our potential, and we'll get back to work on Monday!"

NEXT UP
A limited group of Mavericks will travel to Houston to compete at the Robert Platt Invitational on January 30-31.
