ARLINGTON, Texas — UT Arlington fell to Little Rock 3-0 Thursday night at College Park Center. UT Arlington dropped the sets 19-25, 19-25, 22-25 while finishing with 36 kills and a .132 hitting percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UTA traded points with Little Rock early in the opening set, using a
Hana Aiana kill and service ace along with finishes from
Evyn Snook,
Camryn McMinn and
Dixie Nessl before a Little Rock service error made it 6-6. Little Rock then moved from a 10-8 lead to 17-9 behind kills from Alyssa Boyte and Avery Fearnley, a Boyte-Lovina Teel block and UTA attack errors. The Mavericks cut an 18-10 deficit to 18-13 on a Little Rock service error, a Fearnley attack error and a McMinn kill, and later got within 22-19 on kills by Snook and McMinn. Little Rock answered with the final three points, closing the set with a Fearnley kill, a UT Arlington setting error and a Boyte kill for a 25-19 result.
After trailing 3-2 early in the second set, UTA moved in front 7-4 with help from an
Erica Dellesky-
Hana Aiana block, an Aiana kill and two Little Rock attack errors. Little Rock came back from a 10-7 deficit with four straight points to take an 11-10 lead but kills by
Mazi Smith and
Evyn Snook helped the Mavs pull even at 13-13. Snook added three more kills as the teams traded points through an 18-18 tie, before Little Rock used a service error and two UTA attack errors to move ahead 21-18. UT Arlington got one point back on an Avery Fearnley attack error, but Little Rock scored the final four points, ending the set on Fearnley's service ace for a 25-19 win.
UTA opened the third set with
Camryn McMinn's kill from Dellesky and a Little Rock attack error for a 2-0 lead, but Little Rock answered to tie it at 2-2 and later moved in front 6-5 on Alayna Vaeth's kill. The teams traded points through the middle of the set, with Nessl and Smith scoring around Little Rock errors before
Evyn Snook kills tied the set at 14-14 and 15-15. After Nessl's kill and a Little Rock attack error brought the Mavericks even at 17-17, Little Rock had a 19-17 lead before
Emilee Sikora's kill, and kills by Alyssa Boyte and Avery Fearnley made it 21-18. Sikora followed with another kill and a service ace to pull UTA within 21-20, but Little Rock later reached 24-21 on Lorena Keselj's kill and, after Snook's kill made it 24-22, closed the set 25-22 on a UT Arlington attack error.
