ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington track & field team opened the 2026 outdoor season, hosting the UT Arlington Invitational. On the first day of competition, the Mavericks earned three first place finishes and personal bests, along with two new all-time UTA marks.
The morning began with the women's and men's hammer throw events, where junior Gabriel Songer and senior
Jaalah Puryear each captured first place while recording personal bests in their respective competitions. Songer posted a throw of 47.90m, while Puryear recorded a mark of 54.31m.
With her performance, Puryear stays in second all-time in the UTA record book, outlasting her last second all-time mark of 53.06m, for the women's outdoor hammer throw. Sophomore
Esther Adedire added a third-place finish with a throw of 47.86m.
The afternoon featured the women's and men's javelin competitions.
Eliza Lemberga secured first place with a personal-best throw of 44.36m. With the mark, Lemberga also maintains her fourth-place position in program history in the event, besting her last throw of 43.12m.
