ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks fell to St. John's, 8–1, on Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.
St. John's jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning and added to it with a pair of late innings to create separation. UT Arlington answered with a run in the third, but the Mavericks were unable to generate enough offense to close the gap.
Harold Laracuente brought home UTA's lone run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning after
Ethan Ho doubled and advanced into scoring position. The Mavericks finished with five hits on the night and also drew three walks, but St. John's pitching limited the home team's chances to build any momentum.
Ho led UTA with a two-hit effort, while
Jackson Hill and
Xavier Melendez each added a hit. The Mavericks also worked several deeper at-bats throughout the game, but the Red Storm were able to keep the damage limited after the third inning.
