ARLINGTON, TX -- The UT Arlington softball team secured the weekend series victory, 2-1, despite falling 7-2 to Abilene Christian in the finale at Poly Wells Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks now move to a 13-15 overall record and a 2-1 record in WAC play.
At the plate, UTA was led by junior Kaitlyn Sailor, who went one-for-four with a two-run home run and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Abilene Christian opened the scoring in the first inning as Maxwell doubled to right center, bringing in Arguijo for a 1-0 lead. Maxwell later scored on a Mavericks throwing error to make
The Wildcats added to their lead in the second inning when Garcia delivered a two-RBI double down the right-field line, extending the advantage to 4-0.
ACU continued its momentum in the third, as Schaefer tripled to right center to drive in a run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Hampton to push the lead 6-0.
UTA responded in top of the sixth when Sailor launched a two-run home run to left field, putting the Mavericks on the board, 6-2.
However, ACU answered with a solo home run from Arguijo, extending the lead to 7-2 and sealing the game.
UTA played solid defense down the stretch but was unable to generate additional offense.

The Mavericks continue on the road this Tuesday, March 24 at Baylor at 6:30 p.m. CT at Getterman Stadium.
