ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks closed out the weekend with an offensive surge, defeating St. John's, 12–6, on Sunday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
UTA struck early and often, putting up five runs in the first inning and adding four more in the third to build a 9–0 lead.
Harold Laracuente opened the scoring with a solo home run, while
Ethan Ho,
Austin Phillips and
Hank Harp all delivered key hits during the Mavericks' fast start.
St. John's answered with four runs in the fifth to cut into the lead and added another in the eighth, but UTA continued to answer back. The Mavericks pushed across two runs in the sixth, then added another in the eighth to keep the Red Storm from making it a one-possession game.

Austin Phillips all turned in productive days at the plate for UT Arlington. The Mavericks finished with 10 hits and also drew six walks, giving themselves traffic on the bases throughout the afternoon.
PITCHING NOTES
- Ty Zahradnik earned the win for UTA after working 4.2 innings and allowing four earned runs while striking out five.
- Merek Sears followed with 3.1 innings of relief and allowed just one run, and Dylan Skolfield closed out the ninth.
- St. John's was held to nine hits, and the Mavericks' bullpen helped limit the late damage after the Red Storm's fifth-inning rally.

UT Arlington returns to action Tuesday, March 24, when the Mavericks visit Sam Houston at 6 p.m. at Don Sanders Stadium.
