ST. GEORGE, Utah – The UT Arlington softball team secured the conference series in game two after earning a 12-1 run rule victory over the Trailblazers Friday evening in St. George.
The Mavericks now move to a 20-21 overall record and an 8-6 record in WAC play.
UTA was led at the plate by freshman
Valeria Feeney, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UTA struck first in the opening inning, plating four runs to take an early 4-0 lead.
In the second,
Talia Maldonado extended the advantage with a solo home run, making it 5-0.
Utah Tech got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot from Kinley Pappas to cut the deficit to 5-1.
The Mavericks responded in the fourth as
Mia McNulty launched a two-run home run to push the lead to 7-1.
UTA added to its lead in the fifth inning.
Marley Neises scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-1. McNulty followed with an RBI single through the left side, scoring
Kaylee Schweitzer for a 9-1 advantage. Maldonado later crossed the plate on another wild pitch to extend the lead to 10-1.
Dee McClarity capped the inning with a double to left field, bringing in
Mallory Stone and
Valeria Feeney to secure the 12-1 run rule victory.
NEXT UP
The Mavericks will close out the series against Utah Tech on Saturday, April 17 with first pitch set for 1 p.m. CT.
