ST. GEORGE, Utah – The UT Arlington softball team secured the conference series sweep in game three, 9-4, over the Trailblazers Saturday afternoon in St. George, Utah.
The Mavericks now move to a 21-21 overall record and a 9-6 record in WAC play.
UTA was led at the plate by senior
Marley Neises, going 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs and a grand slam.
Kaylee Schweitzer went 3-for-4 with two runs and a double, while
Kaitlyn Sailor went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UTA struck first in the opening inning, plating two runs off the bat of
Kaitlyn Sailor to take an early 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third,
Marley Neises launched a grand slam to extend the Mavericks' advantage to 6-0.
Utah Tech answered in the bottom half of the inning, as Kinley Pappas put the Trailblazers on the board with a solo home run to left field, 6-1.
UTA responded with RBI singles from
Talia Maldonado in the third and
Mia McNulty in the fifth, pushing the lead to 8-1.
In the top of the sixth,
Peyton Holland crossed home plate on an RBI from
Marley Neises, extending UTA's lead to 9-1.
In the bottom half, Utah Tech mirrors UTA with an RBI single, scoring Abby Davidson, 2-9.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Trailblazers came up with a triple, double and single making the game, 9-4, but UTA was able to get the third out, taking the game at 9-4.
NEXT UP
The Mavericks will travel to Commerce, Texas for a midweek doubleheader at East Texas A&M on Tuesday, April 21.
