ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team secured the conference series over Southern Utah with a 6-5 win in game two on Friday evening at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks now move to a 23-21 overall record and a 11-6 record in WAC play.
UTA was led at the plate by freshman
Valeria Feeney, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Utah struck first, plating four runs in the top of the first to take an early 4-0.
UTA responded in the bottom half of the inning as
Dee McClarity launched a two-run home run, cutting the deficit in half at 4-2.
The Mavericks continued to apply pressure in the second, when
Valeria Feeney delivered a clutch two-RBI single, scoring
Kelsey Creech and
Kaitlyn Sailor to even the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the third, Sailor reached on a fielder's choice and drove in
Marley Neises, giving the Mavericks a 5-4 lead.
SUU answered in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 5-5 with an RBI single.
UTA responded in the bottom half, as Neises delivered a double to left, scoring
Valeria Feeney and putting the Mavericks back in front, 6-5.
Going into the top of the seventh, UTA was able to hold SUU scoreless to take the game at 6-5.
