Sinha shoots an approach shot during WAC Tournament round three

Men's Golf

Coming off the heels of a strong freshman season, Sinha readies for NCAA Regionals

ARLINGTON, Texas – Arth Sinha isn't surprised by the success he's enjoyed in his first season at UT Arlington. While expectations are typically modest for many freshmen, Sinha embraced the pressure and became a staple of the UTA lineup.

Sinha was one of three freshmen — the others being Ajay Morris and Nicholas Lyman — that the Mavericks rostered this season. The trio all had highs and lows, but it was Sinha who led the way many a time for UTA.

"I expect pretty highly of myself," Sinha said. "I was definitely happy with a lot of the good finishes I had… I did expect a lot of myself from the start of the season to play well."

Four top-five's, a trio of top-three finishes and a Western Athletic Conference all-conference first team selection later, Sinha is set to be the first UTA men's golfer since Paul McConnell in 2013 to compete in the NCAA DI men's golf championship. Sinha will compete in the Bryan Regional from May 18-20.

Sinha's strong season culminated in a five-stroke, wire-to-wire individual victory at the 2026 WAC Men's Golf Championship. The freshman posted rounds of 68-69-72 for a 7-under 209 and helped UTA finish as the team runner-up at the tournament, finishing one stroke back of champion Tarleton State.

"I was very consistent off the tee," Sinha said of his performance. "I felt very confident with the driver in my hands, and then I'd be in a good position for my second shot. I was very much in control of all my ball striking and putting. Everything was pretty solid."

Consistency and control have been the key for Sinha all season. UTA head coach Logan Goulding believes Sinha's mistake-proof approach to each round has aided him in a major way, especially on more difficult courses.

"He's a very mature golfer for a freshman," Goulding said. "He knows what he's capable of. He stays within himself. He's also a really good ball striker and is very consistent. He knows where his ball is going to go, which is huge at that age and at that level. He avoids big mistakes. That's the best part about his game, is the way he's able to manage it."

The measured and controlled approach should serve Sinha well at the Bryan Regional which is being hosted by Texas A&M at Traditions Club in Bryan. Goulding called it a difficult course, something that serves Sinha's style well.

"You put him on a difficult golf course, he's always going to really play well," Goulding said. "He is really good about controlling his ball and putting himself in good spots to where if par is a good number, he's going to play really well."

As for Sinha himself, he's preparing for regionals in a similar fashion to how he did the rest of the season and that's playing like he has nothing to lose while showing what he can do.

The Melbourne, Florida-native isn't thinking big picture and isn't doing any last-minute tinkering. Instead, Sinha will adhere to the means that brought him to this point and let the round come to him.

"I'm just hoping to stick to my process on every shot and play every hole individually, one shot at a time," Sinha said. "If I do that, it'll take care of itself, and I'll play well. We'll see where that puts me."

Regardless of Sinha's outcome in regional play, it'll be the latest chapter in what has been a fruitful freshman campaign. Sinha led the team in scoring average this season among players with multiple events. The freshman also led the team with 19 rounds of par or lower this season.

All told, Sinha is the fifth-ever Maverick to be an individual conference champion, the last being McConnell who won the WAC in 2013. The Melbourne, Florida-native is also the program's first all-conference first team selection since McConnell was a Southland Conference first team selection in 2012.

Sinha, along with Morris and Lyman, have created a strong foundation for the Mavericks going into next season. Goulding expects the Mavericks to be young again going into the year but believes the experience of coming tantalizingly close to going to regionals as a team will motivate and benefit the Mavericks.

For now, however, Sinha will fly solo at regionals and look to extend his season by another week. The freshman's season could hardly be looked at as anything other than a rousing success, but that will be far from his and Goulding's minds come Monday.

"It's already a successful week, just getting there and being there, but he's not going to go in with that mindset," Goulding said. "Putting himself in a good position for round three would be a lot of fun. Just kind of give yourself a shot at it. That's honestly, all you could hope for is to tee it up on the last day with a chance and hopefully he's there."

Regional play begins Monday with all six regionals being scheduled to play 54 holes in total with one round of 18 each day through Wednesday. The low five teams and the low individual not on said teams in each region will advance to the championship finals which run from May 29-June 3 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

Sinha is one of five individual players that are also joined by 14 teams at the Bryan Regional, highlighted by top-seeded Texas. Tee times are yet to be announced. Full tournament draws can be found on ncaa.com and live scoring for the Bryan Regional will be done on Scoreboard
