Sinha concludes season at Bryan Regional

BRYAN, Texas – Arth Sinha's strong freshman season came to an end with the conclusion of the Bryan Regional. The final two rounds were completed on Tuesday with the expectation of inclement weather on Wednesday.

Sinha entered Tuesday needing to finish as the low individual not on one of the five advancing teams, but ultimately came up short. The freshman finished tied for 51st after holding serve with an even-par final 36 holes. Sinha carded a 7-over-par 223 for the tournament, good for the second-best mark among players competing as individuals.

Teeing off at 8:50 a.m., Sinha started his day off on the right foot. The Melbourne, Florida-native recorded a near-blemishless second round, shooting a 3-under 69 that featured four birdies and 13 pars.

A bogey on the par-4 first hole — the fourth-hardest of the round by strokes above average — represented the only misstep for Sinha in his opening round of the day. The freshman's round was highlighted by a 2-under back nine that included back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14.

The third and final round played nearly a full stroke more than the second by scoring average and it started turbulent for Sinha as well. The freshman made par on three of the first nine holes while birdieing two and bogeying the other four.

Sinha steadied on the back nine, carding a birdie on the 10th hole before making par on seven of the final eight. The lone exception came on the par-3 16th where the freshman recorded a double bogey. The Melbourne, Florida-native ended the third round with a 3-over 75, bringing his overall score back to 7-over.

UTRGV's Jorge Martin Sampedro finished as the low individual not on an already advancing team. Sampedro finished alone in 10th place at 8-under.

The low five teams at the Bryan Regional were Texas, Texas A&M, Chattanooga, North Carolina and Tennessee.  By virtue of being the low five teams and low individual at the regional, they, along with Sampedro, clinched a spot in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship Finals.

The finals run from May 29-June 3 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

Sinha and the Mavericks will return to action in the fall. The Mavericks look to build on a season that saw them finish just one stroke back of Tarleton State at the Western Athletic Conference championship while Sinha will be coming off an All-WAC first team selection.
