Prior to UTA, Garcia spent nearly 20 years as a sportswriter.
Art Garcia is the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications for UT Arlington. Garcia manages and coordinates all communications efforts for the Athletics Department, and is the primary contact for Men's Basketball and Men's Golf.
Garcia overseas and manages the department's website (UTAMavs.com), social media initiatives, and new media and broadcasting. News releases, feature stories and video projects originate from the Athletics Communications office.
Garcia joined UT Arlington Athletics in January, 2012. Athletic Communications has seen unprecedented growth since his arrival. Social media following on Twitter (@UTAMavs) and Facebook (UT Arlington Athletics) has grown by more than 1,000 percent during that time. Garcia initiated live video streaming and broadcasting of all UTA ticketed-home events, which includes volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball.
Garcia has worked closely with the UTA Department of Communication in creating a broadcasting partnership with UTA Radio for home events. Garcia also teaches a class in Sports Reporting.
Prior to UT Arlington, Garcia spent more than 20 years as a sportswriter. He was as a national columnist for NBA.com from 2008-2011, covering the NBA league office. Garcia spent a year with the Dallas Mavericks (2007-08) as the first Interactive Content Manager in team history. Garcia worked for Fort Worth Star-Telegram from 1999-2007 covering the Dallas Mavericks, Big 12 and TCU, along with the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and other assignments. He worked for the San Antonio Express-News from 1995-1999. Garcia has also written for FoxSportsSouthwest.com, ESPNDallas.com, CBSSports.com, in addition to other national websites and magazines. Garcia began his career in sports information as a graduate intern at UTSA from 1993-1995.
Garcia lives in Arlington with his wife, Stacy, and their two children, Julia and Jakob. Garcia is a native of San Antonio and graduated from Texas A&M.
