Academic Services: What We Provide

STUDENT SERVICES
Early Registration: All student-athletes may register for classes on the first day of early registration, regardless of class standing.  Your athletics advisor will help you schedule an appointment with your campus advisor prior to the start of early registration.

ACADEMIC ADVISING AND COUNSELING
Your athletics advisor will assist you in preparing a schedule that will comply with your degree and work with your practice schedule.

UNIV-AT 1131 - STUDENT SUCCESS
This course will teach new students academic success skills to aid in their transition to college.  The goal of the course is to help students identify their individual needs, determine what resources are appropriate, recognize the faculty role in student development, and formulate a plan for an actively engaged and enriched experience from campus to career.  We offer a special section for student-athletes which includes topics unique to you.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Study Hall
Study hall provides a quiet space for you to work and study.  Study Hall Monitors are present to make sure the academic center remains quiet and can assist with any technology problems you may have while in study hall.  Your coach will determine the number of study hall hours you are required to complete each week.

TUTORING
Tutors are available to meet with student-athletes in the CPC Academic Center. Tutoring is unlimited and free.  UTA also has several free academic services including:
  • UTSI Tutoring;
  • UTSI supplemental instruction sessions;
  • Course mentoring through the Ideas Center;
  • The Writing Center; and,
  • The Math Lab.

COMPUTER RESOURCES
Within each Academic Center is a computer lab.  The computer lab includes 30 desktop computers, Mac and Dell laptops, and free black and white or color printing for student-athletes.  If there is a program you need for a class it is installed on the computers.  Student-athletes may also check out a laptop and WiFi hotspot while traveling with the team.

TRAVEL SUPPORT
When you are traveling for competition, you will be provided with a letter excusing you from class.  You will provide a copy of this letter to your Professors at the start of every semester.  You will also talk with your professor at least one week prior to missing class to reschedule exams or quizzes, and to catch up on any material you may miss while traveling with the team. An academic advisor may also travel with the team if needed to proctor exams or provide academic support.

ACADEMIC RECOGNITION
Sun Belt Conference Academic Recognition: At the end of the season, the Sun Belt Conference recognizes student-athletes who have excelled academically by being placed on the Commissioner's List or the Academic Honor Roll.
  • Commissioner’s List: Student-athletes must earn a minimum 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year.
