UTA Conclude Strong Day One of The Robert Platt Invitational

HOUSTON – Day one of the Robert Platt Invitational opened with the women's weight throw and featured the first multis event of the season, as well as a combination of running and field events.

In the pentathlon, Glodis Thuridardottir started her day off right with a PR in the 60m hurdles at an 8.78s pace to claim the early lead with 956 points. In the high jump, the native of Iceland matched her PR with a 1.53m leap to bring herself up to 1611 points through two events. In the shot put, the third event of the pentathlon, Glodis produced a throw of 10.92m to gain 590 points. On to the long jump, she claimed another collegiate indoor PR with a 5.43m leap to secure 680 points to place her in the lead. In her final event of the day, Glodis shattered her previous 800m collegiate indoor PR by almost 10 seconds, with a scorching 2:26.26s dash to secure 1st place. Her 3621 points in the women's pentathlon are the 4th most points scored in an indoor event in UTA history. She also currently ranks 1st the WAC.

"We are super excited she performed well today," said head coach John Sauerhage. "She did an excellent job overcoming a few nagging injuries. We still have a lot of work to do, and I'm excited to see what's in store next."

In his first multis event of the season, Brady Shadrick opened the door to a potential top-3 finish tomorrow after a strong start in the heptathlon. The Killeen, Texas native accomplished three consecutive indoor PRs in the 60m dash (7.21s), the long jump (6.66m) and the shot put (12.70m) to place him in 7th. In the final heptathlon event of the day, Shadrick claimed a 4th consecutive indoor PR with a 1.93m high jump to bump his current heptathlon ranking to 5th place with 2,932 points, just 184 points away from 1st. The heptathlon concludes tomorrow, with the 60m hurdles starting at 10 a.m., followed by the pole vault and 1000m.

Jarvis Miles cruised to a 2nd place finish in the 400m dash with a sizzling 48.16 mark, narrowly missing on a PR. His pace marks the 4th fastest current time in the WAC.
