FORT WORTH, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington women's basketball team made the trip down I-30 into hostile territory and came up on the short end as #21 TCU (4-0) forced 29 turnovers in handing the Lady Mavs their third straight loss 43-73 Tuesday night at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
As customary this season, UTA (2-3) gave up the first two points of the game before Rola Ogunoye knocked down 1-of-2 free throws and then hit a layup with 17:56 to give the Lady Mavs their only lead of the game.
After a pair of LaToya Lewis free throws tied the score 5-5 with 17:02 to play, the Frogs went on a 17-6 run over the next 7:21 to open up a double digit lead that they would never relinquish, taking a 42-24 lead into recess.
The second half was more of the same as the Lady Mavs continued their shooting woes and TCU turned the turnovers into points in opening up its lead in the second half. The Frogs held UTA to just four points, on just one field goal, in the first 10:11 of the second half in expanding its lead.
UTA shot only 5-for-21 (.238) from the field in the second half in only scoring 19 points. For the game, the Lady Mavs shot just 12-for-45 (.267) from the field and only 13-for-25 (.520) from the charity stripe. TCU shot 2-for-59 (.407) from the field and 20-for-27 (.741) from the free throw line.
Ogunoye was the only Lady Mav in double figures with 11 points, while KaShayla Hawkins collected nine on 3-for-3 shooting from behind the arc and Lewis nine. Ogunoye and Lewis each had six rebounds. Ashley Davis led the Frogs with 12 points and Stephanie Faulkner had 11.
The Lady Mavs return to action on Dec. 6 when they travel to Lincoln, Neb. to take on Neb. to take on Nebraska. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Devaney Center.
