ARLINGTON, Texas...The University of Texas at Arlington's David Corrie finished off a come-from-behind victory in the No. 2 singles position and broke a 3-3 tie as UTA defeated Texas-San Antonio 4-3 in the championship match of the Southland Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Sunday to claim the tournament titleand the SLC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Corrie lost the first set of his match against UTSA's Dennis Andrade 3-6, but came back to win the second set 6-3. As the third set continued on, every other match had already been completed and the team score was tied. Corrie produced when his team needed him, winning the final set 6-4 to give the Mavericks the victory.

Texas-San Antonio won the doubles point by winning each of the matches in the top two positions. The Mavericks came back to tie the score 1-1 when freshman Sandy Farquharson defeated Joseph Olfindo 6-1, 6-1, and took a 2-1 lead after Javier Carrillo defeated Ricardo Almeida 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. UTSA regained the lead by winning the next two matches that were completed. The Roadrunners' Jonas Hoglund defeated UTA's Nathan McGregor 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 position at nearly the same time UTSA's Jon Jenkin defeated Niels Buksik 6-3, 4-6, 2-6 in the fourth slot. Trailing 3-2, the Mavericks' Ian Vazquez came through and kept UTA alive with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Hectori Chavez in the fifth slot to set up Corrie's heroics.

The Mavericks, who also won the SLC's regular season championship, will await word from the NCAA as to which regional they will play in.
