ARLINGTON, Texas - Junior Ashley Van Antwerp paced the Mavericks at the net with 18 kills as Texas-Arlington avenged an earlier loss to McNeese State with a 30-23, 30-23, 30-16 victory in Southland Conference volleyball action here Friday. With the win the Mavericks imporve to 19-4 overall and 11-3 in the league while the Cowgirls fall to 13-9 and 8-7.

Trailing 13-16 in game one the Mavericks used a McNeese hitting error combined with a Caley Smith block and Melissa Marek kill to tie the game at 16-all. UTA then pushed forward using a 14-7 to close out the game. The Mavericks hit .415 in the game and were powered by Ashley Van Antwerp's seven kills.

After trading points early in the second gamethe Mavericks used an 8-0 run to pull away from the Cowgirls for a 22-15 advantage. UTA used a balanced attack, receiving five kills from Torie Dacus and four apiece from Heather Dunn and Van Antwerp.

The Mavericks hit a collective match-high .444 in game three en routeto a 30-16win.

UTA hit .429 in the match while holding the Cowgirls to just .132. Joining Van Antwerp in double digit kills was Caley Smith (13) and Dacus (10). Morgan Rogers and libero Ashley Smith led the defense with 15 digs apiece. Senior setter Heather Dunn chipped in with seven digs while dishing out 43 assists in the match.

Nicole James paced the Cowgirls with 16 kills.

The Mavericks will return to action Saturday at 7 p.m. when Lamar visits Texas Hall.
