LAKE CHARLES, La. - Texas-Arlington senior forward Derrick Obasohan had his second career double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lift Texas-Arlington to just its second road win of the season - 89-78 over MCNeese State at Burton Coliseum Thursday night.
The win evens UTA's (10-11, 5-5) league record while McNeese State falls to 5-15 and 1-8.
UTA used a smaller lineup as guards Keith Howell, Jarrett Howell, Brady Dawkins and Stephen Floyd combined for 36 points and forced 20 McNeese State turnovers.
Donny Beacham came off the bench to score 18 points for UTA. Jarrett Howell had 10 first-half points finished with 14. McNeese State was led in scoring by Greg Tucker with 18. Ryan Price had 12 and Eldridge Lewis added 10.
The Mavericks took control of the game midway through the second half with a 9-2 run to lead71-59 after a dunk by Beacham with 7:56 to play.
UTA made 12 of 13 free throws the final 6:05 of the game to seal the win. For the game, the Mavericks made 31-of-39.
NOTES: The 89 points was the most in SLC play this season for UTA... The 23-point, 12-rebound effort was just the second double-double by a UTA Maverick this season... UTA won for the fourth time in the last five meetings.
