LAS VEGAS, Nevada - The University of Texas at Arlington men's tennis squad picked up its second straight win as it defeated New Mexico State, 5-2, to advance to the finals of the 2004 UNLV Men's Tennis Invitational. With the win the Mavericks even their season record at 2-2.
UTA struggled in doubles action as only the tandem of David Corrie and Sandy Farquharson could earn a win as they defeated Halligan/Avila, 8-4, at the No. 2 position. NMSU earned victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn the team point.
The Mavericks rebounded in singles play, picking up victories at all but one position. No. 21 David Corrie continued his streak by defeating Ben Archer-Clowes, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 1 position. In the two hole, McGregor fell to Danilo Zivanovic, 6-1, 6-4. Farquharson battled for a three-set victory over Stjepan Beg at the No. 3 position, while Buksik battled it out with Christian Halligan for a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory in the four hole. UTA closed out the match with wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions to post a 5-2 victory.
UTA will face No. 74 Oklahoma Sunday afternoon in the tournament finals.
