SAN ANTONIO – UT Arlington men's tennis opened its road trip to San Antonio with a loss against the UTSA Roadrunners. The Mavericks dropped their bout with UTSA by a 7-0 margin.

UTA (0-8) operated a man down in the match, forcing it to forfeit doubles Court 3 and singles Court 6. Needing to win on both Court 1 and Court 2 to steal the doubles point, the Mavericks almost did just that. 

Saúl Berdullas Calviño and Finbar McGarvey quickly knocked off the UTSA pairing of Enzo Vargas and Timeo Bretin 6-3 on Court 1, leaving it to Yazid Lahjomri and Ellison Minnaar to secure the first point of the match for UTA.

The Court 2 tilt was a dead heat, going into tiebreakers, but it was the Roadrunners duo of Oskar Grzegorzewski and Constantin Radu that emerged victorious. The two knocked off Lahjomri and Minnaar 7-6 (7-3), escaping doubles play with the point.

Singles play didn't go the Mavericks way either. UTA had three of its singles matches go to a decisive third set, but couldn't get the win in any.

McGarvey had an opportunity on Court 3 after winning the first set in tiebreakers, but dropped the second 6-3. That led to a super tiebreaker in the third set, which Bretin won 10-3.

Lahjomri lost to Grzegorzewski 6-4 in the final set on Court 1 after pulling even with a 6-2 victory in the second. Minnaar also fell in a super tiebreaker on Court 4 to Ben Chetewy Ungar after a third overrule forced a disqualification.

UTA will have a quick turnaround, capping off its road trip with a match against Incarnate Word. The bout will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mabry Tennis Center.
