SAN ANTONIO – UT Arlington men's tennis capped off its two-day road trip to San Antonio with a 5-2 loss to the Incarnate Word Cardinals. The Mavericks again operated a man down, forcing them to forfeit doubles Court 3 and singles Court 6.

After dropping the doubles point, UTA (0-9) fought hard to turn the tide in singles play, forcing a trio of matches into a third set. All three decisive sets were played in a super tiebreaker after UIW (6-1) won its third and fourth point in the other two singles bouts to clinch the match.

Yazid Lahjomri picked up one of the Mavericks two points on Court 1. The UTA junior took a quick first set win from UIW's Alejandro Hernandez 6-2, but had to regroup after falling 7-6 (7-4) in the second. Lahjomri rebounded well, outlasting Hernandez 10-7 in the super tiebreaker third set.

On Court 3, Saúl Berdullas Calviño narrowly knocked off the Cardinals' Augustin Salazar 11-9 in the third set, securing the other Mavericks point. Berdullas Calviño opened with a 6-4 win in the first set before dropping the second stanza 6-2.

Novak Ivanovic nearly was able to make the Mavericks 3-for-3 in third sets, but came up just short with a 10-8 loss to UIW's Santiago Flyckt on Court 4. Ivanovic won the second set 6-2 after dropping the first 7-5.

UTA will come back home for its next match. The Mavericks will face the Cleveland State Vikings at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the UTA Tennis Center.
