ARLINGTON, Texas - Texas-Arlington senior forward Derrick Obasohan scored seven of the Mavericks' final nine points in the final 5:38 of the game to lift UTA to a 69-64 win over league-leading Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference game at Texas Hall Saturday afternoon.
Obasohan had a team-high 20 while sophomore guard Jarrett Howell scored a career-high 17 and senior center Roy Johnson added 10. SELU was led by center Nate Lofton with a career-high 22. Amir Abdur-Rahim scored 15 and Jonathan Patton added 11.
Neither team led by more than five points in the second half. UTA took the lead for good on a Stephen Floyd 3-pointer with 10:03 to play. UTA hit 68.4% (13-of-19) from the field in the second half.
UTA stayed close as Southeastern hit just 10-of-28 free throws for the game compared to 21-of-34 (61.8%).
Southeastern Louisiana hit 56% from the field (14 of 25) to lead 34-32 at halftime.
UTA played without two seniors - Donny Beacham and Derrick Obasohan - the final 11:00 of the first half. Beacham was sent to a local hospital after falling on his back after a field goal with 15:26 to play. Obasohan picked up his third foul of the half with 11:05 to play.
NOTES: Jarrett Howell's previous career high was six points against McNeese State on Jan. 17.... UTA improves to 8-1 at Texas Hall... Beacham was released from a local Arlington hospital early Saturday night after a precautionary examination. His status for Thursday's game at McNeese Stae is uncertain.
