ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington men's tennis squad recorded a big win Sunday with a 5-2 victory over #62 Arkansas-Little Rock at the UTA Tennis Center. With the win, UTA climbs to 9-5 overall.
The Mavericks, ranked #71 nationally, earned the first team point after claiming two of the three doubles matches. Seniors David Corrie and Nathan McGregor paired up to upset #43 Sebastian Falk and Bastian Faisst 8-5 at No. 1 doubles while Sandy Farquharson and Petri van Rensburg dropped Mithun Murali and Jared Bunt 8-6 at the No. 3 position.
No. 23 Corrie pushed his win streak to eight as he defeated # 98 Bastian Faisst 7-6, 6-4 at the top singles position. Farquharson earned a 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 3 singles while Niels Buksik dropped Davve Baxendine 7-6, 6-2 in the four hole. Van Rensburg closed out singles action with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Mark Edney at the No. 6 position.
The Mavericks return to action Tuesday afternoon as they play host to Wichita State for a 1:30 p.m. match at the UTA Tennis Center.
