ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington's men's tennis squad improved to 13-6 on the year with a 4-3 victory over New Mexico State at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks claimed the first team point after winning two of the three doubles flights. Seniors David Corrie and Nathan McGregor paried up to defeat Ben Archer Clowes and Tyler Lyon 8-6 at the top position while Sandy Farquharson and Petri van Rensburg teamed up for an 8-5 victory over Christian Halligan and Stejepan Beg at No. 3 doubles.
With UTA down 3-2 in the match Corrie, ranked 40th in the latest polls, earned a tough 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 win over Archer-Clowes at No. 1 singles to tie the match. Niels Buksik then edged past Halligan in the four hole 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 to seal the Mavericks victory.
Texas-Arlington will return to action Sunday when it plays host to Nebraska at 10 a.m.
