Final Stats
LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Texas-Arlington volleyball team fell to McNeese State, 30-22, 30-27, 21-30, 30-18, Tuesday evening in Southland Conference play.
McNeese State (12-7, 7-3 SLC) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, powered by Trisha Seale who ended up with 19 kills.
In game two, the Mavericks (4-16, 2-9 SLC) were down 26-25, before the Cowgirls won four if the last six points to take the game, 30-27.
In game three, Texas-Arlington was trailing 14-12, before going on an 18-9 run to close out the game and cut the lead to, 2-1. Senior Melissa Marek keyed the run, pounding out five kills during the stretch with both senior Ashley Van Antwerp and sophomore Ellen Murray adding two kills each.
Game four saw McNeese State jump out ot an early 10-2 lead and never look back, taking the game, 30-18, and the match, 3-1.
Van Antwerp led the Mavericks with 19 kills, while Marek chipped in with 14 of her own. Sophomore Emily Nedderman dished out 42 assists and junior Ashley Smith provided 15 digs for Texas-Arlington. Sophomore Dani Johnson led the team with 16 digs.
Seale led her team with her 18 kills as mentioned above and Marquita Williams added 16 kills of her own. April Holly tallied a game-high 56 assists for the match.
Texas-Arlington will be back on the road this weekend when they travel to take on second-place Sam Houston State on Friday in Huntsville. They will follow with a Saturday match against conference-leader Stephen F. Austin. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
