Final Stats
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Texas-Arlington volleyball team fell to conference-leading Stephen F. Austin, 30-20, 30-19, 30-21, Saturday evening in Southland Conference play.
In game one, Texas-Arlington (4-18, 2-11 SLC) kept it close, 12-9, with two kills each from seniors Melissa Marek and Ashley Van Antwerp. However, Stephen F. Austin (22-2, 14-0 SLC) pulled away, using an 18-11 run, keyed by two kills from Lauren Stevens.
Game two saw the Lady Jacks race out to a 20-9 lead helped by three service aces. The two teams traded points the rest of the game, with SFA taking it to go up, 2-0
In game three, the Mavericks again held serve, tying the score, 14-14. The Lady Jack had five attack errors and Van Antwerp produced three kills during the stretch. Stephen F. Austin closed out the match on a 16-7 run.
Van Antwerp led the Mavericks with eight kills while Marek and sophomore Ellen Murray both chipped in with five kills apiece. Sophomore Emily Nedderman dished out 23 assists, and junior Ashley Smith registered 22 digs.
Lauren Railey led Stephen F. Austin with 17 kills while Laura Cramer added 15 kills. J.J. Jones had a game-high 52 assists and Stephanie Figgers tallied 22 digs.
The Lady Jacks outhit the Mavericks, .340 to .107.
Texas-Arlington will be back in action this Friday when it hosts Louisiana-Monroe at Texas Hall. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
