TEXAS-ARLINGTON FALLS TO LAMAR, 3-1

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Texas-Arlington volleyball team dropped its seventh straight match as they fell to Lamar, 30-26, 30-28, 25-30, 30-24, Tuesday evening at the Montagne Center.

Both teams battled to an 8-8 tie, with sophomore Dani Johnson and senior Ashley Van Antwerp leading the way for the Mavericks with two kills each during the span. Lamar (8-18, 6-8 SLC) opened the game up with a 16-6 run, keyed by five kills from Bucci Okoh to take a 24-14 lead and force a timeout. After that, Texas-Arlington (4-21, 2-14 SLC) fought back with a 9-2 run to close the gap to 26-23. Van Antwerp had three kills during the stretch to spark the Mavericks. The Lady Cardinals settled down to take the first game, 30-26. Okoh led Lamar with seven kills in the first frame, while Nikki Perry added six.

Down 7-3 in game two, Texas-Arlington won six straight points with the help of an ace from junior Ashley Smith and a kill from Van Antwerp to take a 9-7 lead and force a Lady Cardinal timeout. Down 22-21, Lamar used two service aces by Erica Brown to take control of the game and win, 30-28.

In game three, both teams battled to a 17-17 tie, before Johnson had a kill and a solo block that helped Texas-Arlington take a 21-17 lead and force a Lamar timeout. The Mavericks stepped up to take game three, 30-25. Van Antwerp had a monster game, tallying seven kills and one service ace.

Game four saw the Lady Cardinals jump out to a 12-7 lead before the Mavericks took a timeout. The Lady Cardinals extended their lead with an 8-3 run, keyed by two kills from Courtney Mitchell to take a 20-10 lead. Texas-Arlington made it close with a 10-5 run, but Lamar finished the match off, 30-24.

Van Antwerp led the Mavericks with 27 kills, while Smith finished 22 digs. Sophomore Emily Nedderman led with 51 assists. Sophomore Morgan Rogers had seven kills and 13 digs.

Okoh led the Cardinals with 21 kills, while Ashley Todd had 58 assists.

The Mavericks will be back in action Friday evening when they host Southeastern Louisiana at Texas Hall. First-serve is set for 7 p.m.
