ARLINGTON, Texas - The doubles point proved to be the difference in the match as Columbia University capitalized on early scoring to defeat Texas-Arlington 4-3 Friday afternoon in men's tennis action at the UTA Tennis Center.
Niels Buksik and Ian Vazquez paired for the lone Maverick doubles win, an 8-6 decision over CU's Emary/Wallace.
Diego Mattar and Vazquez got things going for the Mavs, earning straight set victories at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. CU's Mark Clemente put a halt to Alberto Agis' nine-match winning streak with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 4 position. Sandy Farquharson battled for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win at the top singles position but it wasn't enough as Columbia strung together wins at No. 2 and No. 6 to edge the Mavs.
Texas-Arlington (5-7) returns to action Sunday when it plays host to Texas-Pan American at the UTA Tennis Center.
