ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington men's tennis squad defeated Texas-Pan American 5-2 Sunday afternoon to remain undefeated in Southland Conference play. The Mavs are 6-7 overall with a 3-0 league mark.
UTPA falls to 1-3 in league action and 2-4 overall.
The Broncs got started early claiming the doubles point as Salvo and Esmail paired for an 8-5 win at the top doubles flight while Bianco and Steil used an identical score to drop Diego Mattar and Alberto Agis at No. 2 doubles. Niels Buksik and Ian Vazqeuz teamed up for an 8-5 win in the three hole.
UTA bounced back in singles action using wins at five of the six flights to claim the victory. Sandy Farquharson got things going for the Mavs with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Gary Bianco at the top position. Mattar added to the Mavs tally with a 7-6, 6-1 win at the No. 3 position while Agis earned a 6-1, 7-6 win over Steil in the four hole. Ian Vazquez made quick work of Email, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 5 position and Felipe Acosta capped off the scoring with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the final position.
The Mavs will return to action March 26 when they play host to Texas-San Antonio at the UTA Tennis Center.
