ARLINGTON, Texas - Despite dropping the doubles point to open Sunday's action, the Mavericks used strong singles play to edge past Texas-San Antonio 4-3 and remain undefeated in Southland Conference play.
Ian Vazquez and Niels Buksik paired for an opening 8-2 victory over Jonas Hoglund and Adam Becker at No. 3 doubles, but the Roadrunners took over doubles play from there. Dennis Andrade and Ricardo Almeida teamed up for an 8-5 win at the top spot and Hetori Chaves and Anthony Portois clinced the point with an 8-5 victory over Felipe Acosta and Alberto Agis at the No. 2 doubles position.
Sandy Farquharson evened the scored, making quick work of Portois at the top singles flight while Diego Mattar turned in a 6-3, 6-3 win over Almeida in the three hole. Acosta scored with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 6 position and Agis played spoiler 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 come-from-behind win over Jonas Hoglund to clinch the match for the Mavs.
UTA will return to action on April 1 when it travels to Wichita State for a 10 a.m. match.
