WACO, Texas - Junior runner Daniel Noah (Hitchcock, Texas) became the second Maverick to qualify for the NCAA regional Track Meet, May 27-28, in Norman, Okla., after a time of 9-minutes, 46.36-seconds in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to highlight performances by the UTA track and field team during the running of the Michael Johnson/Dr Pepper Invitational here Saturday.

In all, the Mavs posted four first-place finishes and five seconds in the one day meet that included teams from Baylor, TCU and Division II power Abilene Christian.

Kelley Jackson (Baltimore, Md.) won the hammer throw with a throw of 169-09 and took second in the discus with a toss of 44.61 meters (146-04). Tiffanie Reeves (Olney, Texas) won the women's shot put with a put of 45-05.25.

Sophomore hurdler Coby Morrison (Wichita Falls, Texas) was just a second off his personal-best time to capture the 400-meter hurdles with a 52.70.

Quinchun Carey (Fort Worth, Texas) had a big day with a win in the triple jump (47-06.25) and a third-place finish in the long jump (23.06.75).

Freshman Angela Gonzales (Merkel, Texas) barely missed the 5.95 meter qualifying mark in the long jump with a 5.86m (19-06.75) to take second place.

Michael Sychrava placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.95 meters (6-04.75). Linda Rosema (Azle, Texas) took second in the hammer throw with a 44.27 meter effort (145-03).

UTA will host the 25th Annual Arlington Invitational Saturday at Maverick Stadium. TCU, SMU, North Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Wichita State, Oral Roberts and Barton County (Kan.) College are scheduled to attend.

Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students.
