ARLINGTON, Texas - Texas-Arlington freshman Pavla Mesterova was named the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. She shares the honor with Southeastern Louisiana's Breda Kovac. Mesterova was also honored on February 16 and March 9, and is the lone Lady Maverick to capture the award this season.
Mesterova helped the Lady Mavericks to a 3-1 week, including a 6-1 win over conference foe Sam Houston State. The freshman, ranked 90th nationally, improved her No. 1 singles record to 10-0 after a 4-0 week at the top flight. Mesterova earned the Lady Mavs lone win last Tuesday morning with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Kansas State's Maria Rosenberg. She closed out Tuesday action with a 6-1, 6-3 win over SHSU's Lata Assundani.
In two non-conference matches over the weekend, Mesterova dropped Marquette's Callan Smith 6-0, 6-3 and Louisiana-Lafayette's Tammy Day 6-0, 6-3 to remain perfect on the week in singles action.
She paired with fellow Czech native Daniela Novakova for a 2-1 doubles mark at the top position.
The Lady Mavericks (9-4, 6-0) return to action Friday when Houston visits for a 4 p.m. match at the UTA Tennis Center.
