Olympic 400-meter champion and Arlington resident Jeremy Wariner will compete in Saturday's 25th Annual Arlington Invitational at Maverick Stadium Saturday.
Wariner, who competed at Baylor for two years before turning pro last summer following the the gold medal in Athens, Greece, is scheduled to compete in the 200-meter dash at 6:05 p.m. Saturday.
Wariner's mentor and agent, Michael Johnson, owns the Maverick Stadium record in the 200 meters at 20.15 seconds in 1993 when he competed for NIKE International at the UTA Open.
The Texas-Arlington men's and women's track and field team 21 colleges and universities to Maverick Stadium for the Arlington Invitational Track and Field Meet Friday and Saturday.
The two-day meet will begin with the hammer throw Friday at 3 p.m. at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
The remainder of the meet begins with field events at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Maverick Stadium. Admission is $5 for adults, UTA students with valid ID are free and students with valid ID are $2. All spectators are to enter through the south gate of Maverick Stadium.
Wariner's presence will highlight a meet that includes athletes from North Texas, TCU, SMU, Baylor, Oklahoma, North Dakota State, Oral Roberts, Oklahoma State, Emporia (Kan.) State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Paul Quinn College, Texas College, Northwood University, Barton County (Kan.) College, Rice and UTA.
