NORMAN, Okla. - Sophomore transfer Jon McDowell (Odessa, Texas) used fast conditions to post a personal-best time of 52.18 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles to qualify for the upcoming NCAA Midwest Regionals at the John Jacobs Invitational here April 16.
McDowell, a transfer from Mississippi, placed third in the 400 hurdles and qualified by more than three-tenths of a second.
Teammate Coby Morrison (Wichita Falls, Texas) barely missed the qualifying mark of 52.51 with a time of 52.63 for fifth place.
Quinchun Carey (Fort Worth, Texas) had the best day by a Mav with two third-place finishes in the long jump (7.25m) and the triple jump (14.05m) Glen Taylor (Alexandria, La.) posted the fastest time by a Maverick this spring in the 100 meters with a 10.62.
In the 110-meter hurdles, junior Adam Stafford (Merkel, Texas) took fourth place with a 14.38 and Ed Broadnax was eighth with a 14.74.
UTA returns to action Saturday at the TCU Invitational at Amon Carter Stadium. The Southland Conference Championships are May 13-15 in Huntsville, Texas.
