MEN'S RELAY EARNS NCAA BID

April 25, 2005

NORMAN, Okla. - The UTA sprint relay team of Adam Stafford, Paul Whitty, Jared Connaughton and Glen Taylor qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional Track and Field Meet with a qualifying time of 40.40 seconds during the John Jacobs Invitational here on April 16.

The time bettered the relays best time of the year by a half-second. The previous season-best was a 40.90 by Quinchun Carey, Stafford, Coby Morrison and Taylor.

"For a group that has not had much time to work together, they did a tremendous job to (qualify for the NCAAs)," said UTA head track and field coach John Sauerhage.

The group will be joined at the NCAA regionals by Stafford in the 110-meter hurdles, Morrison and Jon McDowell in the 400-meter hurdles and Carey in the long jump.

The Southland Conference Outdoor Championships May 13-15 in Huntsville, Texas. The NCAA Midwest Regional in May 27-28 in Norman, Okla.
