PLANO, Texas - UTA senior distance runner Jacob Cedertun named the men's Aeropostale Indoor Track Athlete of the Week in the Southland Conference.
Cedertun won the mile run at the Wes Kittley Invitational in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday with a time of 4:18.35. He followed with a first-place finish in the 800-meter run at the Wes Kittley 6-Way Meet in a time of 1:54.57.
Cedertun is the second Maverick to win the weekly honor. Last week, junior Jared Connaughton was named by the league after winning the 200 meters with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 21.51 Houston Indoor Opener. He also finished second in the 55-meter dash with a 6.23.
In women's competition, Texas State's Sarah Baker and Stephen F. Austin's Crystal Chang shared the honor.
Baker, a senior from Abilene, began the indoor season by capturing back-to-back individual championships in the weight throw at the Wes Kittley Invitational and the Wes Kittley Six-Way at Texas Tech. She won the Invitational on Friday with a throw of 54-02. The following day, she posted another first-place finish in the event with a winning throw of 54-10.
Chang, a senior from Decatur, broke her own school record in the pentathlon with a championship score of 3,755 points at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The second-place athlete finished more than 700 points behind Chang.
UTA junior Linda Rosema was named to the women's honor roll after breaking her own school record in the weight throw with a toss of 15.93 meters (52-feet, 03.,25-inches).
Both men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete at the Houston Invitational Feb. 4 at the Bill Yeoman Field House on the University of Houston campus.
