MAVS SIGN JUCO GOLFER

Nov. 16, 2006

Jerrett Hamilton, who recorded the lowest score ever recorded in a United States Golf Association qualifier, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for UT Arlington Head Men's Golf Coach Jay Rees in 2007.

Hamilton is currently playing his freshman season at Lon Morris College where he won the Paris Junior College Invitational earlier this fall with a 67 in the rain-shortened 18-hole event. He also has tied for third at the Tyler Junior College Invitational this fall and has compiled a 70.3 stroke average.

"Jerrett is going to bring a positive attitude and winning mind set to this team, and we need that right now," said Rees. "He has shot a lot of rounds in the 60s. He has had a strong season at Lon Morris. I expect him to be in our starting lineup next fall."

He competed on the Collegiate Players Tour (CPT) last summer. He posted three top 10 finishes during the summer, including a win at the CPT Flintrock Hills tournament in Austin in July. He also posted 10 top-10 finishes on the Texas Junior Golf Tour last year, including wins at the TJGT Thanksgiving Classic (71-71=142) in Houston, the TJGT Flower Mound (75-66=141) and the TJGT Waterchase event (70-76=146). In 2006, he was named the TJGT Player of the Year.

In 2005, Hamilton carded a 60 at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas during the opening round of the USGA Junior Amateur qualifier tournament, the lowest score ever posted in the event.

Hamilton graduated from The Alexander School in Richardson. He won the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) state tournament his senior season with rounds of 69-70=139. He also won the region title at the Ennis Country Club with a 67. In 2005, he finished fifth at the TAPPS state tournament and he won the TAPPS regional in Muenster with a round of 68.
