FROGS FEND OFF MAVS IN DOUBLE OT

FORT WORTH, Texas - UT Arlington rallied from a 10-point deficit in the final 3:00 of regulation, but TCU guard Ryan Wall made 10-of-10 free throws in second overtime to hold off the Mavericks 97-89 at Daniel Meyer Coliseum Saturday afternoon.

TCU improves to 3-0 with their 10th straight win over UT Arlington. The Mavericks drop to 2-1.

UT Arlington was led in scoring by forwards Anthony Vereen and Larry Posey with 22 points each. Guard Rodrick Epps had 19 and Ro'ger Guignard added 11.

TCU was led by Wall with a career-high 27 points, including 19-of-22 at the foul line. Kevin Lankford scored 18, Brent Hackett chipped in 15, Blake Adams added 13 and Keion Mitchem had 11.

UT Arlington had a chance to win their second straight game at the buzzer. Tied 76-76, the Mavericks had the ball with nine seconds left. After the ball was knocked out of bounds, the ball was inbounded to Posey at the foul line, but instead of taking the ball up, he put the ball on the floor and the clocked ran out before he could get a shot off.

UT Arlington had their chance to win in the first overtime. The Mavs scored the first four points of the period. After a Jermaine Griffin lay up with 1:48 to play, UTA led 80-76. Lankford made a lay up and Keion Mitchem stole the ball from Rodrick and made a lay up to tie the game at 80 with 1:06 left. Guignard hit a jumper for an 82-80 win with :31 seconds left, but point guard Wall made a lay up with :22 seconds to force the second overtime.

The Mavericks played from behind the eight ball from the get-go as Griffin was whistled for three fouls in the first 2:27 of the game and did not return to the game until their were 15:30 left in the game. Griffin, the Mavs' leading scorer at 20.5 points per game, did not score until the first overtime. He finished the game with four points and six rebounds in 20 minutes.

UT Arlington built a nine-point lead in the first half. An Epps jumper with 5:05 left in the half capped off a 14-5 run to give the Mavs a 28-19 lead. TCU went of a 17-8 run to end the half and tie the game at 36-36.

TCU jumped out early in the second to build as much as an 11-point lead before the Mavs rallied thanks in part to 10 missed free throws by the Frogs in the final 2:48 of regulation. For the game, TCU made 30 of 49 shots at the foul line (61.2%) while UTA converted just 11 of 24 (45.8%).

UT Arlington returns to action Tuesday when they host Texas-Pan American at Texas Hall. Tip off is at 7 p.m. Admission is half price with a donation of three canned goods. All proceeds will benefit Mission Arlington.
