FT. WORTH, Texas - UT Arlington lost another close one 71-67 at TCU on Sunday. Junior Maryann Abanobi (Sugar Land, Texas) led the Mavs with a season-high 14 points hitting 4-7 from beyond the arch.
Adrianne Ross led TCU (6-3) with 24 points and Ashley Davis added 21 for the Horned Frogs. UTA (3-6) shot 41.4 percent from the floor and hit 8-23 (34.8) from long range, while TCU shot 41.8 percent from the floor and 41.7 (5-12) from behind the arch
Abanobi helped UTA jump to an 8-2 lead in the first two minutes of action on a pair of three-pointers. Over the next seven minutes the lead changed five times as both teams stayed within one of each other.
Tojjinay Thompson (Plainview, Texas) hit two from long range to put the Mavs up 22-17 with ten minutes left in the half. UTA went up 12 (33-21) with 5:52 on the clock off back-to-back buckets by Candice Champion (Waco, Texas). To close out the half TCU went on an 18-7 run giving UTA the one point lead (40-39) at the break.
TCU took the 51-44 advantage four minutes into the second half, hitting 3-4 from the free throw line capped with a tre from Ross. UTA went on a 6-0 run to get with in two (55-53) with seven minute left in the game.
Champion tied it up 57-57 two minute later before TCU went on a 9-0 run to lead 66-59 with 2:24 left in the game. Abanobi hit a tree-pointer with 20 second left on the clock to get the Mavs within two (69-67). TCU hit 2-4 from the line to end any chance of a UTA comeback.
Three other Mavs ended the game in double digits, Thompson scored a season high 11 points and Ashley Bobb (Garland, Texas) and Champion added ten each for the Mavs.
UTA will return to action on Dec. 19 as the Mavs travel to Cancun, Mexico to take-on Liberty University in the Caribbean Classic.
