HOUSTON, Texas - UTA junior Jared Connaughton set a meet record in the 200 meters with a winning time of 21.57 at the Southland Conference Indoor Track Championships here Saturday.
Connaughton and Northwestern State J.D. Henry were the top-point getters in the two-day meet with 18 points. Connaughton, who set a meet record in the 60-meter dash in the semifinals with a 6.68, took second in Saturday's finals with a 6.85.
He broke the 60-meter mark set by former Maverick Andra Fifer (6.77) in 2001. His 200-meter time eclipsed Henry's time of 21.67 set in 2005.
Senior Jacob Cedertun earned all-conference honors with a second-place finish in the mile run with a 4:14.35 and third in the 800 meters with a 1:54.09.
Senior Daniel Noah was eighth in the mile with a 4:20.19.
Junior Quinchun Carey was fifth in the triple jump with an leap of 14.51 meters (47-07.25).
UTA finished fourth in the men's division and sixth in the women's division.
