HOUSTON - Junior sprinter Jared Connaughton (Charlottetown, Canada) pulled away from Houston's Preston Perry to win the men's 60 meters at the Houston Indoor Invitational here Saturday.
Connaughton's time provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. And is the fastest time in the Southland Conference this season.
Senior Jacob Cedertun (Elksjo, Sweden) won the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:53.87. He took third in the mile run with a 4:13.39.
Freshman Idilio Campos (LaJoya, Texas) was fourth in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:56.38.
Junior Quinchun Carey (Fort Worth, Texas) an NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifier, finished third in the long jump with a leap of 7.05 meters (23-feet, 01.25 inches) and fourth in the triple jump with 13.39 meters (47-ffet, 2.50 inches).
On Friday, Coby Morrison (Wichita Falls, Texas) was second in the 200 meters with a 22.49.
The meet was the final tune up for the 2006 Southland Conference Indoor championships, Feb. 17-18 at he Bill Yeoman Field House on the University of Houston campus.
