Arlington native and Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner and Olympic silver medalist Darrold Williamson will be among the athletes competing at The Bobby Lane Arlington Invitational presented by Ben Hogan Sports Therapy Institute Saturday, April 1, at Maverick Stadium.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students. Field events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and running events at 1 p.m. A ceremony to dedicate the re-naming of the meet from the Arlington Invitational to the Bobby Lane Arlington Invitational will be at 12:45 p.m. during the opening ceremonies.
Teams scheduled to compete include: Barton County (Kan.) CC, Johnson County (Kan.) CC, La.-Monroe, North Dakota State, Northwestern State, North Texas, Northwood, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, TCU, Tarleton State, UT Arlington, and SMU's women's team.
The Chinese National Team will have their 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams competing.
Williamson, a former Baylor standout, will compete in the men's 400-meter dash at approximately 4:10 p.m. and Wariner, a graduate of Arlington Lamar High School, will run in the mens' 200-meter dash at 6:05 p.m.
"With the way the weather has been in the area, this meet is the first chance for teams to compete," said UTA Head Track and Field Coach John Sauerhage. "Since we are hosting the Southland Conference Championships in May, a number of conference teams will be competing and make for a strong field this year.
"We are thrilled to have Jeremy return to Arlington. He competed at this meet two years ago and it is great to have an Arlington native return to Maverick Stadium."
