MAV BATS QUELLED IN NIGHTCAP, 4-1

Houston sophomore pitcher Angel Shamblin held UT-Arlington to two hits as the Cougars swept past the Mavericks 3-1 in college softball action Tuesday night at Allan Saxe Field.

Shamblin (6-4) only allowed singles to Dee Jay Nelson in the fourth inning and Autumn Petrino in the fifth inning.

Laura Jones (2-2) took the loss for the Mavericks, now 9-8 overall.

Houston (18-7) got all the runs they needed with three in the second inning.

With two outs, Laura Durham reached base on a bunt single. Haley Valis tripled to left center to score Durham. Jamie Adams reached base on an error by Courtney Anderson, allowing Valis to score for a 2-0 lead. Brooke Johnson tripled to right center for a 3-0 lead.

UTA returns to action Saturday when the travel to Nicholls State for a three-game Southland Conference series beginning Saturday at 1 p.m.
