TRACKSTERS HEAD TO DENTON

April 14, 2006

DENTON, Texas - A week after competing at the Texas Relays, the UT Arlington men's and women's track and field team will travel to Denton for the Brooks/North Texas Spring Classic at Fouts Field.

Field events begin at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday, with running events kicking off at 2:30 p.m.

The Mean Green will be hosting one of the region's biggest meets that will include Baylor, Texas Tech, UTA, TCU, Arkansas St., Abilene Christian, SMU, Oklahoma State and Arkansas.

The field includes three teams ranked on the Trackwire 25 (Texas Tech men 7th, TCU men T15th, Baylor men T18th), and numerous athletes listed among the nation's best.

Among those is UTA junior sprinter Jared Connaughton. He is ranked with the nation's fastest collegiate time this season with a 20.59 he clocked at the Bobby Lane Arlington Invitational on April 1.

Hurdles Coby Morrison and Jon McDowell will try and post an NCAA region-qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles. Both came close to the qualifying time of 52.51 during the Dr Pepper Invitational in Waco March 25. McDowell locked a 53.59 while Morrison just missed the time with a 52.55 for second place.
