ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington men's and women's track and field teams will get their final tune-up before the 2006 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships as they host the UTA Open Friday and Saturday at Maverick Stadium.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students. Field events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Friday. The 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter runs will be Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday's events will begin with field events at 9 a.m. and running events slated for a 2 p.m. start.
"Most of our athletes will be limited to one event, but we will be looking for a few marks that will rank high in the SLC rankings. While we will take it light, we still feel we have an opportunity to create some momentum (heading into the conference meet)."
Senior pole vaulter Shay Collett enters the meet after a second-place finish at the Drake Relays.
"Shay has looked outstanding in practice and he will try to break his own school record (17-4.5)," said Sauerhage. "We feel he is capable of clearing 18-feet in the next two weeks."
Senior Jacob Cedertun will compete in the 800 meters, junior sprinter Jared Connuaghton is expected to run in the 100 meters and the region-qualifying 4x100-meter relay team will compete Saturday.
Maverick Stadium will host the 2006 SLC Championships, May 13-15.
